Steam & Steel 2001

In May 2001, Four industrial steam locomotives were brought to Workington by low loader and performed shunting duties around the internal rail network between the rail mill and the dock. Photographs appeared in national railway enthusiast magasines some time later.

Imagine the smoke, the steam, the smell, the ground vibrating under your feet......

Memories are made of this.

This event was for the benefit of fee-paying photographers and rail enthusiasts from the UK and overseas.

It was the forerunner of the CorusRail125 event in September 2003 when 125 years of railmaking in workington were celebrated
