The Prince of Wales Dock

Coal, iron ore, and limestone, the essential ingredients for iron making were available locally but cheaper, better quality ores were latterly imported. Empty mineral wagons can be seen waiting on the dock side underneath the cranes. The dock was linked to the Iron & Steel works via a private rail network so that wagons did not have to comply with main line regulations.

Rails and steel sleepers were exported through the dock to destinations all over the world.
